This is the 16th year that we get together for the Commemoration Day of Ferdowsi. Getting together while we are worried about our loved ones back home may not seem wise at first, but engaging in cultural events can strengthen our resilience and support one another during difficult times. Cultural activities offer emotional relief and stability which strengthen resilience and help communities cope more effectively with worry and stress. 

The event is free, but please book in advance to secure your place, as it usually sells out. If you do not receive a confirmation email, your booking has not been completed successfully.

بزرگداشت فردوسی: زنان در شاهنامه، نیروی تغییر

 

مانند میلیون‌ها زن دیگر در فضایی که خارج از خانه‌اش پر تنش و از جهل لبریزبود پا به عرصه وجود گذاشتم. از زن بودنم ناراضی بودم و حس مرموز و مسموم عدم سازش با خود را سالها چون چوبه دار بر دوش حمل کردم. پس از کوچ به انگلستان بود که آموختم چگونه با تمامی خود کنار بیایم و از زنانگی سرکوب شده که، در نفرینی پاینده سال‌ها به تحقیر سق زده بودم، بالی برای پرواز بسازم. گمان می‌کردم امنیت نکوداشت زن، خاص اروپاست ولی آشنایی با متونی چون شاهنامه مرا به سوی روشن فرهنگی که از بطنش برخاسته بودم رهنمون شد. فردوسی ستون‌های استوار تمدنی به فراموشی سپرده شده که بر دوش زنان پاینده و پویا مانده را به من نمایاند و مرا با سرزمینم دوباره آشتی داد. به پاس این را مهر در سیزدهمین بزرگداشت فردوسی در منچستر نیم نگاهی به داستانهای شاهنامه که زنان در آن‌ها تغییر را رهنما هستند می‌پردازیم. این سخنرانی به انگلیسی خواهد بود.

Captive in the claws of ignorance and oppression, being born as a woman was a curse. After my migration to the UK, I learnt that what practically was a rope around my neck was actually the shrivelled up version of a pair of wings that could be trained and used for flying. I considered my own land somewhat incapable of valuing and respecting women, that is till I became familiar with Persian poetry. Poetry in general and Shahnameh in particular enlightened me to see the strong pillars of culture and civilization that have been actively maintained and guarded by women. As my way to put something back to this culture, I will be talking about some of the stories of Shahnameh with women as a force of change. Hope to see some of you at the 13th Commemoration Day of Ferdowsi.

سخنران اصل برنامه دکتر محمود کویر با تراژدی قدرت در شاهنامه: رستم و اسفندیار

دیگر برنامه‌ها به ترتیب حروف الفبا: شاهنامه و گیتار، سعید مختصی و رضا انصاری با قطعه گردآفرید؛ دکتر شهیره شریف با زنان شاهنامه نیروی تغییر(به انگلیسی)؛ گروه دف آکادمی موسیقی صهبا به رهبری استاد امیر نیک‌منش؛ هونیا منفرد (نوجوان علاقمند به شاهنامه) با رزم گردآفرید. همچنین در خدمت نویسندگان منچستر و نشر نوگام از لندن برای فروش کتاب خواهیم بود.

2. برنامه میکروفن آزاد برای کسانی که مایل به خواندن شعر یا صحبت درباره فردوسی هستند.

در این جلسه دوستانی که در گارگاه‎های شاهنامه‌خوانی دوستان شاهنامه شرکت می‌نمایند هم حضور خواهند داشت و بخش‌هایی از اجرای مجازی خود را تکرار خواهند کرد.

The 13th Commemoration Day of Ferdowsi is a free event (on 7th May) in English and Persian sections, but requires registration on line. Places are limited, please book your free ticket by clicking here.

Speakers:

Dr Mahmoud Kavir (Mahmood Kavir), historian, poet and playwright, is the main speaker for the 13th Commemoration Day of Ferdowsi. His talk is in Persian.

Dr Shahireh Sharif, Writer and performer, will be talking an women as a force of change in Shahnameh. This talk is in English.

Honeya Monfared will be reading Dordafarid from Shahnameh

Music:

Saeid Mokhtasi and Reza Ansari will be playing guitar and reading Shahnameh.

Sahba Music Academy's Daf group with maestro Amir Nikmanesh composing. (Daf is a frame drum musical instrument).
